About Me
Internationally Minded.
Fully Bilingual - English and Japanese.
Dr. Hitomi Nakamura, DPsych
I am a qualified Counselling Psychologist with over 18 years of experience in mental health services. Having trained in New York and London, I have supported clients of all ages and a wide range of ethnical, racial, religious, social, and economic backgrounds.

I know what it is like to face challenges in a foreign environment. I understand what it feels like to be different from everyone else or to be seen as 'different'. This is the reason why my passion is to offer support to people in the international community in Japan and beyond. With my profound appreciation and curiosity about cultural diversity, I strive to meet people where they are, honouring their cultural backgrounds whilst exploring how these factors influence their mental health and well-being.
As a lead school counselor at the British School in Tokyo, I extensively helped young people, their families, and teaching professionals. My sessions were offered in English, Japanese, and often a mixture of both languages. I provided individual therapy, parent consultations, workshops, and training. I also liaised with local agencies such as counseling and psychiatric services as well as the Japanese public services.
Additionally, I worked in GP surgeries, outpatient clinics, and in-patient hospitals in the National Health Service (NHS) as well as the private sector in London, U.K.
